Mount Saint Vincent University Centre of Excellence for Children and Adolescents with Special Needs Site
This research group is focused on early intervention policy and practice for young children with special needs. Under the direction of Dr. Mary Lyon, Dean of Professional Studies and Dr. Kim Kienapple, Department of Child and Youth Study, the team has studied how intervention services are delivered, the types of assessment tools used by early childhood professionals, training practices and institutions and the information needs of parents and professionals.
Memorial University Centre of Excellence for Children and Adolescents with Special Needs Site
This research group is based out of the Department of Psychology at Memorial University. Patricia Canning, Ph.D. and Mary Courage, Ph.D. are the Co-Directors of this group. Lynn Frizzell, M.Sc. is the Site Coordinator. It works with health-care professionals, government, academics and community groups to identify knowledge gaps and needed research in the area of child nutrition, health and development. Research focuses on early intervention programs for pregnant women, children and families at-risk; overweight and obesity in young children; school food programs; changing family eating habits; and the Special Needs Information Service Online Directory.

Healthy Child Development
Prince Edward Island's commitment to young children is described in its Healthy Child Development Strategy which focuses on providing opportunities for all children to grow and develop to the best of their abilities. The strategy supports an early intervention approach for children with special needs. Hosting a site for the Special Needs Information Service Online promotes greater awareness of services and programs available to help families. SNIS Online PEI is maintained under the direction of Healthy Child Development Coordinator, Sarah Henry.

Learning and Technology Centre (LTC) is a rehabilitation and special education resource service providing for clients, families and the community. The role and purpose of the LTC is to assist each individual in becoming as independent as possible, given their functional opportunities to live and learn in least restrictive environments and programs, within domestic, vocational, educational, social recreation/leisure, and community settings. The LTC provides technical support and consultation for the Special Needs Information Service Online.
